Sperm collection in male pikeperch

In order to make the handling during spawning less complex, the sperm can be collected and stored for maximum 24 hours. It’s very important that the sedated fish is dried around the papillae. The sperm should not come in contact with water or urine as this will activate the sperm and make it unusable later for fertilisation (should be activated after mixing with the eggs by adding water). Therefore be careful not to suck up urine in the syringe. Urine is transparent/watery and sperm white and less liquid.
